Leviathon in New Orleans

The chaos and anarchy erupting in N.O. is a real-life version of Leviathon and serves as example of how the GOP model of less government benefits only those with the resources to help themselves. Unfortunately, what the modern day wealthy individuals have forgotten is that even if you can buy your passage out of a situation, you may be killed by the angry mobs before you reach safety.

There's a reason public programs were created for the middle and lower classes: to maintain status quo for the wealthy. It's same reason organized religion was created: to keep the workers working for an end goal. This life may suck, but you'll be rewarded in the next. Now get back to the fields! Review world history, America.

Bill O'Reilly calls these people savages/animals. I'd like to see what Bill O'Reilly resorts to in hot, humid weather, forced to sit on top of a sizzling roof for a days as water rises all around you. Hungry. Thirsty. Desperate. Soaked in your urine and feces. Seeing your neighbors' dead bodies float by. Humans are the product of their environment. If they are acting like animals, it's because they are living in a predatory jungle.

I think the government agencies are doing the best they can. It's a quagmire of a situation. The Director of FEMA wasn't empowered by the President until late yesterday afternoon, since that they've been able to rescue about 2,000 people today - just counting airlifts from roofs.

I blame the city of N.O. for lack of preparation. They were the ones with no crisis plan. They hadn't thought through all scenarios. They had no contigencies in place; their agencies and their authorities were not properly trained. They lacked leadership.

But there will be plenty of time for finger pointing later, after these people are moved to a safe, dry place and fed.

Thank God for the generosity of Texas. And Detroit! Way to go Detroit - opening your city to the refugees.
