graceland's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life's a goddamn tsunami, try to weather the storm My head is spinning today, the hazards of a thinking job. I started my day thinking about the hazards of a "doing" job. There was an accident at my cousin's workplace last night. Specifically, one of the guys on the nightshift got his finger caught in some machinery that consquently cut off his finger and about 10 feet of tendons in his arm. Thats about as bad as your work day can get. Couldn't even retrieve the finger, it was ground up. When I was in high school, my friend's older brother worked in a factory/warehouse type gig. He was a problem child. He was that kid who always set off smoke bombs in the hall or in stairwells in school. Was a peeping Tom on his sister and her friends - drilled a hole into her bedroom and would watch us get changed. Adolescent stuff. Kicked out of my high school, kid went to military/reform school at one point and even got booted out of there. Anyway, he must have been 18 or 19 when he had this job working a lift at this warehouse and the kid raced the lift, flipped it and ended up paralyzed. A gd parapalegic at 19, if you can believe that shit. I thought about that kid today. Full grown man by now, stuck in a wheelchair because he probably had ADD left untreated. If we had grown up in today's world, that kid probably would have been the mastermind behind "Girls Gone Wild" or "Jackass." The world is a crazy place right now. Tsunami news is barely a blip on the radar; millions of people are desperately learning how to use a powder to purify their drinking water and all anyone else cares about are Paris Hilton's vapid halfthoughts on her Sidekick. Hunter Thompson is still dead.
